2 Days Per Bottle Wine Blog
Initially, I liked the bloggers concept of enjoying a bottle of wine during the course of two days. I felt this was an interesting notion and was curious to see how he developed this idea. This blogger seems reasonably knowledgeable about wine and wine tasting, clearly having tasted and reviewed many wines. I was also drawn to the nice graphic at the top of the wine blog depicting varying wine bottles book-ended by two wooden men. These wooden men continue to infiltrate each wine review and their presence, as the only mentioned wine accessory, becomes a bit overwhelming. I felt the overall look of the page was sparse and not visually intense. However, after further review of the blog, the site could definitely be spruced up to create a more classy appeal.
I like his passion for wine which strongly permeates his writing. Readers are not given much wine information beyond the bouquet, tasting notes, and wine details. I would have been very interested to read information on wine storage, such as which wine cooler does he recommend. Does he use a wine refrigerator? What are some of his favorite wine accessories aside from the inebriated wooden men? When he discusses wine aging, what are the optimal temperatures that should be considered, and what appliances are most beneficial for creating the perfect wine aging climate?
The wine tasting notes and descriptions appear thorough and detailed. Wines were described as emitting flavors ranging from berries to toasted toothpicks and after reading some tasting details, I humored to myself whether or not he actually had put some of these items in his mouth. Beginning each wine review, he incorporates the general information about the wine that you would expect to find in a wine blog. Included in this list are the vintage, varietal, type, producer, designation, country, region, sub-region, appellation, and his method of acquiring the particular wine. I will agree this amount of information on any given wine makes locating it much easier and for that, readers should be thankful.
I found the grammatical quality of this wine blogging site to be somewhat poor. In addition, I was distraught by the lack of consistency from post to post. One aspect of writing that keeps readers interested and coming back for more is the aesthetic of the text. He used bold headings in some places but much needed punctuation in other areas was sadly missing. For example, where he lists the details of the wine there should be some demarcation between the reoccurring item and its response, i.e. Variety: Pinot Noir. There are spelling errors, incomplete sentences, and other grammatical errors. Taking the little amount of time required to spell-check and proof read would go a long way to making this blog more enjoyable to read.
